What is BBQ sawdust charcoal briquette?
It is made by carbonising purely natural hardwood sawdust in the absence of oxygen. Before carbonisation, the sawdust is compressed under high pressure and temperature into a hexagonal log with a hole in the centre, so the finished briquette is dense, uniform, easy to light and easy to stack.
Typical values from production lots; may vary slightly by dimension and batch. 1 kcal = 4.184 kJ.
Quality that exceeds the standard
How typical Indobara BBQ values compare with the European product standard for barbecue charcoal (EN 1860-2:2023) and with what German retail buyers commonly request.
Fixed carbon
Higher is better — burnable carbon: longer, cleaner heat. EN 1860-2 min 60% · German retail ≥ 80%.
Ash content
Lower is better — less residue, a cleaner grill. EN 1860-2 max 18% · German retail ≤ 4%.
Moisture
Lower is better — you pay for water that cannot burn. EN 1860-2 max 8%.
MJ/kg calorific value
Higher is better — heat released per kilogram. Typical EU/NA buyer expectation > 29 MJ/kg.
Fixed carbon
The carbon that actually burns, calculated by difference: 100 − moisture − ash − volatile matter. High fixed carbon means long, steady, clean heat.
Ash
The incombustible residue left after full burn-out. Low ash keeps airflow open and the grill cleaner.
Moisture
Water that is paid for by the kilogram but never burned. Low moisture also lowers self-heating risk during long sea transit.
Calorific value
Heat released per kilogram, measured in a bomb calorimeter. > 7,000 kcal/kg ≈ 29.3 MJ/kg.
EN 1860-2:2023 sets minimum fixed carbon (briquettes ≥ 60%), maximum ash (≤ 18%) and maximum total moisture (≤ 8%) on a dry basis, and prohibits wood preservatives, paint, pitch, bitumen and chemical accelerants. German-retail and EU/NA benchmarks are commercial buyer norms, not part of the standard. Indobara values are typical production figures; an independent laboratory test report for your market can be arranged on request.
Why sawdust briquettes?
Hard to light, uneven to burn, messy to clean: many grillers know the limits of ordinary charcoal. Indobara BBQ is built to remove them.
Burning time
Depending on dimension. Typical quality sawdust briquettes burn 2.5–4 hours.
Fixed carbon
For long, steady, clean heat.
kcal/kg
Calorific value, for fast, strong heat.
Sparks & odour
No sparks, flare-ups or odour once lit.
| Indobara sawdust briquette | Hardwood lump charcoal | Standard charcoal briquette | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shape & size | Uniform hexagon, 12–40 cm, with centre hole | Irregular; sizes vary piece to piece | Uniform, usually pillow-shaped |
| Heat profile | Steady, medium-to-high heat for hours | Can spike unpredictably | Steady, but varies by recipe |
| Burn time | 4–5 hours | Varies with species and piece size | Typically shorter |
| Fines & dust | None — 100% usable | Common; wasted in the bag | Low |
| Smoke, sparks, odour | Virtually smokeless, odourless, spark-free | Can smoke and spark | Fillers and binders can add odour |
| Ash | 3.38%, white and bright | Often irregular | EN 1860-2 allows up to 18% |
| Raw material | Sawmill sawdust waste | Cut or sourced wood | Charcoal dust with fillers |
| Loading & storage | Uniform shape stacks tightly for efficient container loading | Bulky, irregular, breaks in transit | Good |
Built for professionals. A long, steady burn means fewer refuelling stops during service, and uniform heat helps kitchens get repeatable results every night. Whole briquettes burn longer than broken pieces, and controlled airflow extends the burn further.
FAQ
How long does a briquette burn?
4–5 hours, depending on dimension. Whole briquettes burn longer than broken pieces.
Does it smoke, smell or spark?
It burns virtually smokeless and odourless, and does not spark or flame.
What are the dimensions?
Hexagonal with a centre hole; lengths from 12 to 40 cm as per request.
Can you customise packaging and branding?
Yes. Packaging and branding are flexible; the standard export pack is a 10 kg master carton.
Does it expire?
There is no expiry date. Keep it dry and out of the rain.
